UNION TERRITORIES#

 Union Territories (UTs) are a type of administrative division in the Republic of India. A Union Territory is directly governed by the Central Government through a Lieutenant Governor who is the representative of the Indian President. Whereas a State is a unit under an Indian constituency with a separate government. In India, there are currently eight union territories. The eight Union Territories of India are Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. 


  • The States Reorganisation Act of 1956 established the UTs. The Constitution (Seventh Amendment) Act of 1956 introduced the notion of the UT.

Reasons Of The Formation Of UT's

Small population and land area

  • In comparison to a state, the union territories (excluding Delhi) have very small populations and land areas, therefore running a legislative assembly and a council of ministers for them will be a financial hardship

Strategic locations

  • Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are located far west and east of our country, respectively, and their mainland governments are quite far away, making it difficult to reach them directly through the Central government.
  • However, they are strategically important for India, and the Indian government can act directly there in the event of an emergency.

Protection of Indigenous culture

  • Some Union Territories, such as Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu (Portuguese), Puducherry (French), and, most recently, Ladakh, have different cultures from the surrounding states.

Administrative Importance

  • Delhi and Chandigarh are two union territories that serve as the administrative capitals of India, Haryana, and Punjab, respectively. As a result, the Indian government must maintain authority over these union territories.

Security situation and general backwardness

  • Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, are positioned on Pakistan's and China's frontiers.
  • Despite having natural resources, the state was economically underperforming as a result of both national and international aggressions, as well as regular terror occurrences.

PINNACLE#2023 DAY 2

  In the morning doesn't really felt to wake up but , eventually waked up at 6:40 in the morning . Got dressed and prepared everything for the event. Got to Banjara Hills by 10 AM, just after entering the college we got into the seminar hall and were ( me and uma) ready for the extempore event( JAM). I got a topic about money lobbying , does not really know much about the topic, so didn't say much and ended too soon(about 15seconds). But I felt that this act of 15 sec gave confidence to the other people to say the little they know, and everyone just said what they knew. Then came to the auditorium and sat for some time and left for making reels , but nothing worked out and the song we thought of doing was actually tried by many others. but I felt uniqueness was missing, so I convinced the fellows not to do.
