UNION TERRITORIES#

  Union Territories (UTs) are a type of administrative division in the Republic of India. A Union Territory is  directly governed by the Central Government  through a Lieutenant Governor who is the representative of the Indian President. Whereas a  State  is a unit under an Indian constituency with a  separate government.  In India, there are currently eight union territories.   The eight Union Territories of India are  Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.  The States Reorganisation Act of 1956 established the UTs. The Constitution  (Seventh Amendment) Act of 1956  introduced the notion of the UT.
